Primary Color Group
Red Rider
- Know how to move around horses safely
- Be able to catch, halter, and lead a pony with assistance
- Know how to use the cross ties
- Name the brushes in a grooming kit and what they are used for
- Pick the front hooves with assistance
- Name the basic points of the horse
- Bridle a pony with assistance
- Ride a pony at walk and trot in the arena on the lunge line
- Know where X is
- Dismount unaided
Yellow Rider
- Pick out the pony's front hooves unassisted
- Saddle a pony with assistance
- Put his bridle on unassisted
- Mount unaided (a mounting block may be used)
- Ride at walk and trot off of the lunge line
- Know how to post at the trot
- Perform an intro level dressage test (walk/trot)
- Know the parts of the bridle
- Understand how to tell if their pony is warmed up
- Perform an emergency dismount at the halt and walk
Blue Rider
- Prepare the horse for a lesson unassisted (including all tack)
- Pick out all 4 hooves unassisted
- Name the parts of the hoof
- Ride at walk, trot and canter off of the lunge line
- Understand the basic arena figures and changes of rein
- Trot over cavaletti
- Perform a training level dressage test (walk/trot/canter)
- Know how to properly cool down their pony
- Know the parts of the saddle
- Perform an emergency dismount at the trot
The cost of testing for each level is $15. Each rider who passes their test will receive an embroidered SW Dressage polo shirt corresponding to the color test they passed. Testing will be conducted in a low pressure, positive manner. Shelby will work closely with each rider to ensure they are prepared for each new color.
